Past, Present and Future of Asian Lacquer
The upcoming workshop, “Past, Present, and Future of Asian Lacquer,” set for February 13th, 2025, in Pisa, will bring together experts from diverse fields such as conservation, heritage science, art, and chemistry to deepen the understanding and appreciation of lacquer materials, particularly urushi. This event offers an opportunity for professionals to explore the chemical and physical properties of traditional lacquer formulations, as well as its artistic and practical applications across history.
This international workshop will include several invited talks by lacquer experts who will present their latest research on lacquer and case studies from museums and institutes from all over Europe.
A renowned lacquer artist, Prof. Shimode Yutaro, will also provide a plenary talk and a practical demonstration of maki-e techniques.
